JetBrains IDE

Why it worked

The video taps into a relatable sentiment among developers about the changing landscape of coding tools, specifically the rise of AI assistants. It highlights a potentially controversial but intriguing workflow that challenges traditional development practices, sparking curiosity and discussion.

Summary

A software engineer reflects on how they haven't used an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) in months, relying instead on AI tools like Claude and Codex via the terminal for coding tasks and code reviews. They describe a workflow where AI generates code and handles revisions, with the engineer only reviewing the output within the AI tool itself.

Structure

1Introduction: Software engineer hasn't opened an IDE in months
2Realization: The extent of not using an IDE
3Workflow: Using terminal and AI (Claude/Codex) for coding
4Process: AI handles code generation and revisions

I have not opened an IDE in months I'm a software engineer and I just had the realization that I have not opened an IDE in months. I'm talking about something like IntelliJ, a JetBrains IDE, something like that. It has literally been months, probably since the start of the year since I opened one of those. To write code, basically just live in the terminal and ask Claude Or Codex to raise code reviews or pull request for me and then I'll review the code within that actual tool, not in the IDE And then if I need revisions, I go back to the terminal and tell it to review it and do it again
