Why does Minecraft have VSync on? Why does Minecraft have VSync on by default? Many players just turn it off to get higher FPS. But what does it actually do? Well, it's short for vertical sync. It fixes screen tearing. Basically, when the computer screen is halfway done rendering a frame from top to bottom on another one, it starts on another one, creating a visible horizontal line, making vertical sync. But there's a problem with the V-sync, it actually makes it feel laggy and it's why players turn it off. Because if you normally play on 60 FPS, and it will momentarily drop to 59 FPS, then it will be as if you dropped to a 30 FPS, causing a noticeable stutter, which is super annoying. And there's something that a ton of players get wrong about this, players, especially if they do PvP for put their FPS to unlimited. And many that if your monitor is 60Hz, as you have more than 60 FPS, your game will be as smooth as possible. But that's actually not true at all. Because if you have 2000 FPS, your game is refreshing way faster, you'll be shown a frame generated one millisecond ago versus 16 milliseconds ago on 60 FPS. So the frame will be 16 times older. And this is actually very noticeable for most players. And so turning seems like the better option. is FreeSync on by default for many casual players who might not notice the screen delays, but who will notice screen glitches?
