Do you wish you were more creative? The truth is, you already are! What holds most people back isn’t a lack of creativity - it’s focusing too much on the final product. You worry, “Will this be good or bad? What if I mess it up?” And sometimes that fear keeps us from trying at all. Even professional artists can fall into this trap. We become too careful. We start grading ourselves before we’ve even finished. If you start to play it safe (or you stop playing!), that’s exactly what stops creativity. So what’s the solution? Forget the expectations. Start to play! Scribble on the paper. Splash paint around. Sew crazy fabrics together. Write every thought that comes into your journal without stopping. Make a secret little polymer clay animal that no one ever has to see. Give yourself permission to be the worst person in the class. (Who cares if you are?! I don’t- I’ll just keep cheering you on!) Tell yourself you’re not even going to keep what you make. Give yourself permission to mess it up. I regularly play with clay, sculpt silly little animals just for fun, press a new plant just to see what happens, or experiment with colors and glazes without knowing how they’ll turn out. It’s one of the ways I keep creativity alive. For this ceramic jewelry dish, I pressed lavender and an African daisy into soft clay, sculpted the dish, fired it, painted it, and fired it again. I didn’t try to recreate the flowers exactly as they were. The daisy was such a vibrant color that I felt it almost overpowered the lavender, so I changed it to a soft pink with some of the lavender’s tones in it. That’s the fun part: to experiment, to play, to stop worrying about the outcome and just let creativity flow! So don’t be afraid to try something new, make something “bad,” or change your mind halfway through. Stop grading yourself. Just play.😊 #satisfying #pottery #creativity
