There is no such thing as WHITE GOLD 💎

There is no such thing as white gold. Before the jewelers come for me, let me explain exactly what I mean. There is no such thing as naturally white gold. Gold is an element, as you can see here. In its pure form, it is naturally yellow. Pure gold is actually mixed with other metals to alter its color and physical properties. But here's the part a lot of people don't know. The resulting white gold alloy is not that bright white shiny color that you're used to seeing in the jewelry case. That's when things get interesting. White gold usually has a warmer, maybe gray or slightly yellow undertone. So how do you get that super bright white finish? Rhodium. Rhodium is a completely different chemical element. It's actually a part of the platinum family of metals. Many white gold pieces are actually electroplated with rhodium, resulting in that bright white finish that so many people love in the jewelry case. That is when one thing as a jeweler, I love about white gold because you can always re-plate it with the rhodium and it will look brand new. So yes, white gold technically does exist, but gold itself is yellow. That is when you look at a white gold piece that might be a little more worn or older, it's sometimes has that tinge of yellow. It's not actually turning yellow, that's just that rhodium plated white gold wearing off over time, which is completely normal. So yes, white gold technically does exist, but gold itself is yellow.
