Things I've noticed about Texas

I'm in Texas bringing my daughter who's moving here and I wanted to tell you a few specific things that we have noticed about Texas. And I have a lot of people on here from Texas, so maybe you can chime in and give me yours. First of all, when I said I was coming to Texas, everybody and their mother said, oh, it's hot. I hope you're prepared. And I'm like, I'm from Florida, of course I'm prepared. And I was not prepared. This heat is different. It's not like Florida heat. It's more like the sun has a grudge against you. Heat. It just bakes you. And Maddie and I honestly don't mind it that much because it's not humid. Like we're not drenched in sweat from the humidity. It just feels like the sun is cooking our skin. It's very interesting. Highways are huge. Six lane, seven lane, exits coming from every which way. Somehow these people know where they're going. Maddie was like, I don't see a speed limit. Maybe more like a suggestion because people go 75 miles an hour. People go fast here. All those roads, those windy roads. Also I noticed that the roads here are kind of rough. Like they're not smooth. They're so bumpy. I was worried several times that I was going to get a flat tire because there's potholes, the roads are uneven, the construction. Oh, the construction. It's like all of Texas is under construction. I told Maddie, are they building a new country? And Maddie's like, uh, I don't think they're done building Texas yet. Every single place is under construction. GPS can't keep up because you can tell because we were rerouted so many times, like we had to go backwards to go backwards again. It was insane. Apparently it's normal to make this little weird U-turn under highway. I'm like, this does not feel right. I have to be going the wrong way. But it's the way I was supposed to be going. There are speed bumps everywhere. Every parking lot has a thousand speed bumps. I am not used to that. Parking lots are very big. And a lot of them are empty. I don't know. The parking lots are different than Florida parking lots for sure. Lots of stores, but somehow the store that you need to go to is 22 miles away. Big everything. That's true. We saw an American flag the size of the Eiffel Tower. I loved it. Everybody says it's hot, constantly. This is something very specific that we noticed. Like when we got to the apartment, somebody came that worked there and he was like, man, it's hot out there. And then somebody else came and they were like, it's hot outside today. And then the cleaning guy came to our apartment and he was like, it's hot out there. You'd think that they were new to this, because they constantly, when you go to the store, they say, man, it's hot today. They say that all the time. I guess that's their language. It's really funny. We've seen a lot of Sally Beauty Supply. There are a lot of strip malls with a lot of random little stores. It'll be like Motorcross, Kirkland's, Five Below and a sushi restaurant in a dentist office. Very random. People are nice. I love it. Southern hospitality. We've had very good encounters so far. Everybody seems really, really friendly. And honestly, it is a lot like Florida. It feels a lot like Florida. The heat is a little different, but other than that, it definitely feels like home.
