5 famous fruits and how they got their names 🍓 🍑 Peach The Romans called them “Persian apples” because peaches reached Europe through Persia. Over time, the Latin name persicum eventually evolved into “peach.” 🍇 Grape comes from an Old French word connected to a hook or tool used for harvesting grapes. Basically, the tool used to pick them helped give them their name! 🍓 Strawberry This one is debated! The name comes from Old English streawberige. One theory is that the plant’s runners make the berries look “strewn” across the ground not necessarily because people put straw around them. 🍍 Pineapple originally meant pine cone! When Europeans encountered the tropical fruit, they thought it looked like a giant pine cone and gave it the same name. 🫐 Raspberry likely comes from the old word raspise, which was the name of a sweet, rose-colored wine. Exactly how that name jumped from wine to berries is still a bit of a mystery. #garden #education #History #homestead #shilohfarm
