I finally tried the spot everybody keeps talking about... and here's my honest take.

I finally made it to Chef Chasty at Eastgate Town Center because y’all have been telling me I NEED to try this place. 👀 And listen… I really wanted to love it. The menu is HUGE — boil-in-a-bag, red beans & rice, wings, burgers, Philly cheesesteaks, catfish, oxtails and so much more. So when I went in yesterday with my son and was told the only things available were burgers, wings or a Philly, I decided to give it another shot today with the wife. Today, I was ready for the red beans & rice and fried fish… only to find out those weren’t being served either. Then I asked about another side… also unavailable. By the fourth item I asked about, I was definitely frustrated. And honestly, I think this could be an easy fix: if certain menu items aren’t being served that day, just let customers know when they walk up to order or have a clear “not available today” sign. If you’re out of several popular items, make a few recommendations for what IS available. That would make the ordering experience so much easier. We ended up with two oxtail plates, wings, two sides per plate and drinks — about $78 after the tip. As for the food… the oxtails were tender and had good flavor, but they weren’t the traditional brown-gravy-style oxtails I was expecting. These had more of a barbecue-style sauce. I also tried the mac & cheese, sweet potatoes and cornbread, and for me, I was missing that BIG seasoning and comfort-food flavor I look for when I eat soul food. So… that was MY experience. 🤷🏾‍♀️ But I know Chef Chasty has a LOT of love in Chattanooga, and I’m not writing the place off based on one visit.
