The wife and I finally checked out WAKO Asian Buffet in Hamilton Place, and baby… the first thing I noticed was THE AESTHETICS. 👀 This place is modern, beautiful, and honestly gives high-end dining experience. But this is Chattanooga, honey. 😂 And y’all know how we do. We will walk into a beautiful, luxury-looking restaurant in athleisure, shorts, khakis, ball caps… whatever we had on when we left the house. 😂 And I love that about Chattanooga! If this restaurant were in Atlanta or Nashville, you might feel like you needed to be DECKED OUT. But here? Come as you are. Want to dress up because the space is beautiful? DO IT. Want to come straight from running errands because you’re hungry? DO THAT TOO. Because at the end of the day… it’s still a buffet. 😂 This was our first time at WAKO, so our server gave us the rundown. The buffet is $34.95 per person, and there is A LOT to choose from. 🍣 Sushi with tons of different rolls 🍣 Sashimi 🥗 Salads 🍲 Soups 🫛 Edamame 🥢 Spring rolls 🥦 Vegetable & meat tempura 🍗 Teriyaki proteins 🍚 Different fried rice options 🍜 Lo mein 🍵 Green tea ice cream 🍰 Fried cheesecake …and plenty more. One thing I REALLY appreciated was how they handle the prepared-to-order items. If you order something like shrimp teriyaki, chicken teriyaki or noodles, they bring it out in smaller portions instead of putting a huge plate of food in front of you. Want more? Just ask! I actually think that’s smart because it helps cut down on waste. When you’re full, you can simply stop ordering instead of having a giant plate of food sitting there that you aren’t going to eat. And speaking of waste… They are serious about that sushi. 😂 Our server explained that if you leave food behind, particularly sushi, you can be charged up to 50¢ per piece for uneaten food. They also allow you to take food to go, but the idea is to discourage people from loading their plates up with more than they can actually eat. Honestly, I can appreciate the intention behind it. It’s a buffet, so take what you want — just don’t be greedy and wasteful. Now, was I sitting there thinking, “Shaun, you absolutely ate $34.95 worth of food?” 😂 Honestly… I struggled with that one. BUT I will say this: the variety is what made it worth it for me. You get the opportunity to try so many different things in one meal, and I really enjoyed being able to sample different flavors and dishes without having to commit to ordering an entire entrée. So would I go back? I think I would — especially when I’m in the mood to try a little bit of everything. WAKO definitely gave me modern, elevated, beautiful restaurant vibes… with the laid-back Chattanooga dress code we all know and love. 😂 Now tell me… Have you been to WAKO yet?
