Hazel Village Presents Let's Craft a Carrot Hat Pin for Reginald Fox! Let's craft a felt carrot Let's craft a felt carrot hat pin for Reginald Fox in honor of our new Garden Treasures, Garden Treasures, written by Jane Van illustrated illustrated by Jane Van Cleef and Sarah Tanikawa, follows a day in Reginald Fox's For this For this craft, you will need some green felt, some orange felt, sewing supplies, and these handy little templates. We're starting by tracing that orange triangle to be our carrot. And now we're just cutting that triangle out. Now we're going to fold this piece of felt in half and pin it so everything stays in place, though pinning isn't strictly necessary. Now we're taking some orange thread and sewing a straight stitch along the open edge. When you should have a triangular little tube situation that looks like this. And now we're using a little wooden skewer to turn it inside out. Now we're using our little leaf template and tracing that onto the some green felt. You're welcome to use this design, but you can also shape the leaves however you like. We went with five leaves. Now we're using some batting down down inside of our carrot. This can be kind of tricky depending on the size of your carrot, so we found using that skewer from before pretty helpful. Now we're sewing all of the leaves together with some green thread. Then we're making a little indent in the batting with the skewer and putting those leaves inside. Now we're using a running stitch to sew up the Make end so that it cinches into place. To add some additional detail, we're taking some brown thread and through the bottom of the carrot and then just sewing a few horizontal stitches. There is no rhyme or reason for where you place them. Whatever feels best to you! And then we're tying everything off at the top part of our carrot. This is sort of what the final product should look like. Now, we're using a straight pin to attach it to Reginald's hat but you could also sew it into place if you'd like.
