Everyone should have a folder, physical or digital, labeled in case something happens to me. Here's what goes in it. Hi, I'm Michelle. Some people call me Money Momma. I'm a Certified Financial Planner. And this single folder has saved families weeks of chaos during the worst moments of their lives. I know you think, probably you, it's not gonna happen to me. Probably you again, I'm young, nothing happens to me. Anything can happen. Think a car accident, something. You get sick and you have to go to the ER. Just imagine. Who knows? Who knows how to get in your house and get your dog out of the crate? Who knows where the dog food is to feed them? What if? What if you got into an accident and you are incapacitated for a while? How? How are your bills paid? How is your house paid? What account does the money go into? What account does the house payment come out of? And the all of the utilities? I've worked where something happened to their spouse, bank accounts, utilities, bills, and they had no idea where any of this stuff was. And I've had people go into foreclosure and not even know where the mortgage or how it was paid or why the money stopped going into the account. So it's really, really important while you're healthy to do this. What To Put In Your "Just In Case" Folder. Here's some things that you want to include in case something happens to me file. Include your will, life insurance policies, contacts, a list of every account with rough balances, login information or password manager access. I would say access to your cell phone. So that somebody that you trust can get into your cell phone. Contact info for your attorney or accountant if you have one, or your financial planner. Now, this isn't about expecting the worst. It's about making sure that the people you love aren't left guessing during an already devastating time. You're doing it for them more than for you because they're gonna be the ones stressed out like, what do we do? How do we help this person? So update it once a year. And that's it. Once you put that folder together, you have it. It's all there. Build it once, update it yearly. Protect your people always.
