Give me your secrets, sis!

I got a few comments requesting a tutorial for how I dematted this channel's brother in a previous video. So this is round two. This dog's name is Pearl. First thing I'm gonna do since this undercoat is so overgrown and dense is mix up some conditioner and apply it directly to the matted areas, saturate it a little bit with some water and get it all in there. Then we're headed back to the grooming table because I'm going to blow out her coat with the conditioner on it. Ideally, I would like to do this in the tub as well, but in my salon, the electrical connection by my tub isn't as great and this dryer is going to pull a lot of electricity. Anyway, yes, this is a huge mess because this dog is also very dirty. So once I'm happy with the amount of coat I got off with the blow dryer and the conditioner on it, we're back in the tub for an actual bath. Not only did that first round with the blow dryer help get out a lot of that bulky undercoat, but the soap is now going to be able to make contact with her skin. So it's actually going to give me better results with just one wash. Now after the bath, condition and rinse, we're back on the table. I love these shammy's, they really do cut down on a lot of time in blow drying. I also love the Chris Christensen Ice on Ice Detangler and Finishing Spray and these are my two tools I'm going to be using, a dematting rake and a slicker brush. As you can see, all of this undercoat is coming out really easily. It takes very little effort for all of this undercoat to come out in just clumps. And then I do like to do these brush outs wet and I'm only brushing out where the undercoat is the densest. Then the next step of this is going to be running a slicker brush through her coat all over. I'm not too vigorous with the brushing because again, the blow dryer and all steps prior really did get the bulk of it out, but this is just getting those little wispy bits. Then running a comb, just to make sure I get all the little fine tangles that might be hiding. And then the final step would be to do some hand scissor work. Not a full body hand scissor, but we did a lot of work today. But she's matted free and definitely going to be a lot cooler in the summer heat. Anyways, hope that helped. Thank you guys for watching.
