What thing about the black community like when they have an autistic kid, there is no special treatment. There is no special dinners, special lunches, oh you get chicken nuggets, everybody else gotta eat fucking tuna fish. No bitch, you gonna sit your ass down and eat that damn tuna fish like everybody else. My controversial opinion is that this isn't really something to be proud of. That that's my controversial opinion. Now, there are nuance. There's there's nuance in every situation. So I'm not gonna get too deep into it, but specifically the one point that I want speak on is like the food point. Because as an autistic person, I feel like I speak for other autistic people. If something is up with the food, I just won't eat it. Straight up, I just won't eat it. So, you know, common dinner in a household, spaghetti. The thing about me though, is I did not like spaghetti. Did not fuck with spaghetti. I think it was like the marinara sauce and like the combination of the textures. I'm just now coming around to marinara sauce. Back in the day when I was little, did not fuck with spaghetti. And the thing is, my mom knew that. She knew that I didn't like spaghetti. So when we would have spaghetti night, my mom would make the noodles, she would make some spaghetti sauce and then on the low pot for me, she would make some Alfredo. And then I think there are some ways that you can genuinely accommodate, especially if you're your child is like lower support needs and they can actively communicate why they need and what they don't like about a certain thing and what would help them in a certain situation. I don't think that's like coddling or setting them up for failure or not treating them like anybody else. And I hate the narrative of, oh, you shouldn't accommodate your child because the world isn't going to accommodate them. When in reality, if you're autistic child goes out to a restaurant and they want a dish that has something on it that they don't like texture wise or sensory wise, they're just gonna be like, can I have this dish without this aspect of it? And the restaurant's probably gonna be like, oh yeah, we can do that. Like, and like I said again, there's definitely nuance to this. But I feel like for some situations, it genuinely doesn't take that much time or effort to accommodate your autistic child and make their life a little bit, make their life a little easier.
