I've flown in and out of Italy for years and I'm telling you now, stop spending a fortune on the Amalfi Coast. There are four places that give you the same Italian coastline, far fewer crowds, and much better value. And the last one's probably my favourite spot in the country. First up, the Cilento Coast. It's just south of Amalfi with cliffs and blue water, except sensible prices and room on the beach. I couldn't believe how quiet it was. Then there's Procida. Tiny little island, pastel houses all around, fishing boats everywhere, and no chaos. Proper old school Italy. Next, Polignano a Mare down in Puglia. Cliff top houses, sea caves, and a cracking little old town sitting right above the water. Still lively but not madness. And the pick for me, Ostuni. Whitewash buildings glowing in the sun, olive groves stretching for miles, and dinner prices that don't make you question your life choices. I'd go back tomorrow. Want the full travel guide I use?
