REANIMAL has just launched its first DLC: The Prisoner, and while it takes us back to a similar desolate wasteland we saw in the first game, there is a lot more for us to uncover while we're there. Not only do we play as two new children, The Prisoner and The Soldier, in a constant battle to survive an island that presents new dangers at every step, we've also got an entirely new, massively intimidating enemy to avoid: The Flame Thrower Soldier. REANIMAL is no stranger to obscure, twisted enemies as we already encountered in the main game, but this one definitely feels almost-human, despite the complete lack of facial features and the unstoppable destructive nature. And the gigantic flamethrower they used to tear down anything and anyone in their path. As you make your way through the warzone, the flamethrower soldier closely follows, but you never really know where they hide regardless of their gigantic size and towering nature compared to the two mass children. One wrong move, and you'll stumble directly into their clutches. So just trust me when I say that not every door leads to a safe end. Fortunately, we've been given some new tools to defend ourselves within this bleak setting. Firstly, the axe, which is far more powerful against the smaller enemies you'll encounter later down the road. But, along the way you'll also pick up an Instant Camera, which goes hand in hand with your new weapon. This Instant Camera is an integral tool in solving you'll encounter as you explore. Not only does it manipulate certain objects when you take a photo, such as getting a mannequin to drop a key you need to enter the next area, but it's also the key to exposing hidden elements around different zones. Like unlocking a suitcase, taking a picture, and revealing an icon tucked in the lid. Or, taking a photo of a computer monitor to change the logo on the screen. No, it doesn't offer much brute force when fighting, but outside of puzzle solving, it's an essential piece of kit for both stunning enemies and also unlocking one of the games' newest modes of travel: corpse. We saw this rather bleak method used in the base game, where one of the first enemies disappears into a body, but now it's our turn to make the most of this rather unsettling feature by taking a photo of the body to open up the "doorway" before climbing in and popping up elsewhere. The second brand new mode of transport is a military motorcycle. This isn't just handed to you in the game, and you need to fight tooth and nail to get ahold of it. But, once you have, you're at least given a way to defend yourself against the horrors thanks to its machine gun side car. Don't rely on this firearm too much though. If you're relentlessly firing, you do run the risk of your weapon overheating, we've had enough fire already in this DLC. If you're feeling brave enough to take on the arduous journey, then REANIMAL: The Prisoner is now available on Steam, and who knows where we'll end up next.
