story time on how I found out I have 3 tumors in my neck at 19 years old
let's go back to January 25: I just tore my ACL at gymnastics practice. it was devastating because my last first competition of senior year was in two weeks
Feb 25: got surgery the day after my 18th birthday to repair torn ACL
i was angry and didn't understand why it had to happen. however, I tried my best to lead on God's understanding over my own.
it was so incredibly hard to deal with this but I focused on the little wins and tried my best to be positive
Dec 25: finished almost a year long process of rehab and was cleared !! 🥳
May 26: was having some issues with my knee again, chronic pain, it would give out on me, buckle, etc
got an MRI and it showed I had a cyclops lesion on my ACL graft causing the pain + a build up of scar tissue
got scheduled for a minor knee surgery to take it out and solve the issue
Surgery scheduled June 25th
at my pre op appointment for knee surgery, a dr noticed my neck/thyroid was swollen and told us to get it checked out ASAP
first thought in my head was that I have cancer and it was really scary
Went to dr this morning for my knee surgery pre appointment, walked out there with bloodwork and lab work ordered for my thyroid
What tf is my life
I never noticed it until someone pointed it out, and then it's all I could see
Had multiple blood draws for lab work (I hate needles so that sucked)
More bloodwork boo
many ultrasounds on my thyroid and lymph nodes to look at the sizes of them, see if it's spread, etc
June 26: they found out that I have 3 nodules/tumors in my thyroid, and they looked concerning because of the size & shape so they scheduled my biopsy on the same day as my knee surgery to get it all done in 1 go
before my surgery I had a Italy trip planned from a while ago, so I still went and tried my best to have a good time
it was actually so much fun 🥹 but the possibility of having cancer lingered in the back of my mind. I still tried my best to not worry about it and enjoy the present moment
I could start to see the lumps in my neck more and more as time went on (this was taken during my trip)
After I got back I had my knee surgery & biopsy.
i was supposed to go home that same day but the tumors reacted badly when they poked them causing my throat & airway to swell badly. They kept me overnight for observation in case it got worse.
I was relieved we got it done and now we just had to wait for answers. my neck did hurt very badly 😅 (my knee hurt too but not as much as my neck surprisingly LOL)
Got discharged the next day, this is what my neck looked like after. they had to take cell samples from all 3 nodules.
then it was a waiting game for answers, so I tried to spend the rest of my summer relaxing and enjoying time with my loved ones.
finally got results back from biopsy, and it came back as inconclusive. There wasn't enough evidence to show if it was cancer or not but it was marked as suspicious masses that shouldn't be ignored.
