This was our biggest fear when designing characters for our Crow investigation game. We're designing 50 animal NPCs, and we got stuck with a problem. On the one hand, most animals don't have a massive difference between males and females. But on the other hand, we all live in a society. And we knew that if we defaulted for just one type of presentation, people would assume that most of these characters are male. So we needed to show the difference between them without. For some characters, it was quite easy, like this rich widow whose husband died under mysterious circumstances, or this boxer bunny. But for some it was harder, like this frog chef who has an anger problem, or this owl student who's looking for love. So this was our method. No. 1. Our brilliant artist is a woman, and obviously so am I. So we were making these characters for the female gaze. Every female character was designed like someone you would want to be friends with. Two, who tried to work with clothes and given some of the characters slightly more feminine proportions and 3, we just accepted that some characters, much like humans, will lean towards more masculine or androgynous. And we can either give them a feminine name or just let it be up to the table. Let us know which type of animal design do you prefer. And this game is launching September 15th. And this is your last chance to follow so you don't miss out on an exclusive bat character.
