I feel like one thing that people forget to do when they level up a character in a tabletop game is to think about how that level up physically impacts them. I don't mean like new abilities or stat changes, I mean like physically how can someone look at you and see the difference between you and the level one version of yourself? If you're a spell caster, it's really easy to do this by saying that your magic maybe changes to a more vibrant colour. Or if you use summons, maybe they start to look a little bit more cool. Like if you summon an elk all the time to use as a mount, maybe its antlers get more and more branched and large. If you summon a bear, maybe its pelt starts to have these swirling patterns on it that glow brighter and brighter the more you level up. Your weaponry and armour might also evolve if it's magical and attuned to you in some way. But also if you have the capability to use certain tools, like smith's tools or leatherworker's tools, you yourself can spend some downtime around the campfire, like carving some new stuff into it and making it more ornate. Especially if you're really tied to it and it's growing with you. You can also have some other player character come up to you and prompt you to say how you're growing. Like if around the campfire you guys have all leveled up and you notice that the barbarian in the party has taken an extra point or two in strength, it might be worth it to go up and just over the fire, say, you've been looking really tough lately. Like, let me see those muscles. Cause most of the fun of having a character is watching them grow. And it's just even more fun when you can see those changes.
