I just paid $20 for a stack of plates at a church rummage sale and I think they might be worth over a thousand. I'm currently sitting in the elementary school car pickup line because I quite literally cannot wait until I get home to show you these. So, today, I stopped by this bazaar, you know, the kind, basically like an estate sale meets a garage sale meets your grandmother's combined living room, okay? I'm walking around when I see this stack of seven plates. And I'm like, interesting, not necessarily, I've struck gold like, someone's eccentric, definitely rich aunt definitely owned these kinds of interesting. So I pick one up, okay? Can you see this? They're different. They're all different. I flip it over. And it says on the back, Victoria and Richard: Child's LTD, 1988. And it says, McKenzie Childs, LTD, 1988. Me, excuse me? These are original vintage hand-painted McKenzie Childs ceramic plates from 1988, which just happens to be the year I was born. In Childs, in the black and white courtly check pattern became immediately associated with McKenzie Childs. And every single one is different. Different colors, hand painted. They're tiny art pieces. Look at this one. This one is my favorites. They have scalloped edges, colors, hand painted. They're basically like tiny art pieces. So anyway, I find individual vintage this listed approximately $200 a piece. Each $200 a piece. Seven of them for $20. So now I have a new problem because when I bought them, I thought, gosh, what an amazing find. I could resell these. But now that they're mine, I don't know if I can. Like, do I sell them hardcore McKenzie Child's collector who understands these? Or do I hang all seven of them on my wall so that I can just look at them? Or do I eat dinner potentially $200 plates like a lunatic? Or do I just sit here in the car and stare at them until my children get in the car and ask why their mother has seven plates buckled in the passenger seat, right? Because right now, we're anyway, this never ever stop digging through church sales or random piles of other people's stuff because every once in a while, the $20 plates and today, I hit the bazaar jackpot.
