Be honest… do you actually wait until your black tank is this full? 👀 One of the biggest RV waste management rules we follow is waiting until our black tank is around ⅔–¾ full before dumping. Why? Because your RV black tank needs enough liquid volume to help create that strong “whoosh” when you dump. That extra water helps carry solid waste and toilet paper out of the tank instead of allowing solids to settle and build up. And this is also why we keep our black tank valve closed, even when we’re staying at a campground with full hookups. If you leave the black valve open continuously, the liquid can drain away while the solids remain behind. Over time, that can contribute to the dreaded “poop pyramid” underneath your RV toilet. 🤢 Our basic RV dumping routine: ✔️ Keep the black tank valve CLOSED while camping ✔️ Wait until the black tank is mostly full ✔️ Dump the black tank first ✔️ Close the black valve ✔️ Dump the gray tank second to help rinse the sewer hose ✔️ Use an approved RV dump station or legal sewer connection ✔️ Add Water back to the black tank RV life comes with a LOT of things you learn along the way, and knowing how to properly dump your RV black tank, gray tank, and holding tanks is one of those things that makes full-time RV living so much easier. Do you follow the ⅔ rule, or do you dump whenever the sensors say full? 👇🏻 #RVLife #RVTips #RVBlackTank #RVLiving #FullTimeRVFamily
