Some of the biggest lessons about health come from seeing what happens when the body is pushed to its limit. After years of caring for critically ill patients, I’ve learned there are a few things worth building into your life before you ever need them: 1. Build muscle. Strength gives your body more reserve when illness takes a toll. 2. Keep moving. Walking, exercising, and staying active help maintain your heart, lungs, and overall function. 3. Prioritize protein and good nutrition. Your body needs the right building blocks to maintain and repair itself. 4. Protect your sleep. Recovery isn’t optional. Sleep supports your immune system, brain, and overall health. 5. Manage your chronic conditions. Blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, and other conditions shouldn’t be ignored until they become emergencies. 6. Stay connected to people. Recovery is hard, and having family, friends, and community around you matters. 7. Don’t wait for a crisis to care about your health. Prevention gives your body a stronger foundation before something goes wrong. None of these guarantee you’ll survive a critical illness. But after seeing what the human body goes through in the ICU, I can tell you this: You want to build your reserve before you need it. ❤️. #health #Lifestyle #fyp #doctorsofinstagram #canada_life🇨🇦
