A woman died in Lavington and nobody found her for weeks. That is what I want us to sit with today, on World Suicide Prevention Day. I do not know the full story and I am not here to blame anybody. Nobody knows what was happening in that home. But something about it should stop all of us. Weeks passed. Nobody checked. Nobody knocked. And I think about my own life. If my phone went off for two hours, somebody would call. Not because I am special, but because of relationships I have built over years. That is privilege, and many people do not have it. We are living in an era of seclusion. People are surrounded by contacts and completely alone. So build meaningful friendships. Not a hundred people. Two or three who would notice if you disappeared, and who you would notice too. Check on people. The friend who has gone quiet. The relative who stopped attending things. It costs you one message. And if you are the one struggling, please speak to somebody. Kenya Red Cross runs a free 24 hour line on 1199. Befrienders Kenya is on 0722 178 177. Talk to a doctor, a counsellor, or a person you trust. You can also message me. I may not solve your problem, but I can listen and help you find real support. Reach out today. Somebody is waiting to hear from you. — Elvis W.
