They said my life was over because I was pregnant at 17 and on food stamps. I proved them wrong. When I was 250 pounds, people made fun of me and said I’d never lose the weight. I proved them wrong. My first “grown-up” job was as a bank teller. Then I started over as an assistant, working from 6 a.m. until sometimes 7 p.m.—including weekends. I kept showing up, kept working, and eventually worked my way up the corporate ladder. I proved them wrong. And I’m so glad I did. Because imagine if that 17-year-old girl had listened. Imagine if I had believed what people said I was capable of. Imagine if I had allowed someone else’s opinion of my life to become my reality. I wouldn’t be living the life I once prayed for. A car doesn’t define me, and it certainly doesn’t define success. But every time I look at this one, it’ll serve as a reminder of how far that 17-year-old girl has come—and how many times she proved them wrong. In all aspects of life, people will have opinions about what you can and can’t do. They may judge your past, underestimate your potential, or try to convince you that your circumstances define you. But they don’t get to decide your future. So if someone has counted you out, doubted you, laughed at you, or told you what you’ll “never” become… Let them talk. Then go prove them wrong.
