Lexi & Gabe Purity culture and political context

Lexi Hidalgo posted some sort of like kind of apology video, um, regarding a lot of backlash that she's gotten about some more purity culture, um, videos that her husband was posting, Gabe the trainer, like saying sex before marriage is a sin. And in her video, she's like, she's crying, talking about how upset she is that people think that she's changed and feels really stressed that people are like slinging like conservative, um, pro-abortion, like pro-choice, you know, like she has been liberal in all these senses. And now she's like, why do people like think that I've abandoned my values? Babe, because you're parrotting purity culture, evangelical Christian talking points. You need to look at who is saying the same things that you are. The idea that sex before marriage or living with someone before marriage is a sin has a direct relationship with women hating their bodies, with the development of rape culture, with victim blaming, with abstinence only education, which leads to unplanned pregnancies and more unprotected sex. Like saying that sex before marriage is a sin, living with someone before marriage is a sin, like, fucking like far right conservatives say that type of shit. So it makes sense that people are like, oh, well, where do you stand on abortion? Where do you stand on gay people? Where do you stand on trans rights? Because you have to look at the political context. Like we are living through a rise of conservatism and a rise of fascism. So obviously people are going to be concerned when you start spitting out Jerry Fallwell talking points.
