Why Are So Many People Struggling to Get Pregnant?
Transcript
What would be your response of why there has been such a rise of infertility and miscarriage? First of all, the infertility side, it's massive. When I started studying nutrition, naturopathic medicine, I read and learned that in the future, we would have such low fertility rates that we'd be considered almost endangered species, and we're seeing that play out. It's not just infertility, you mentioned miscarriage. If you are trying to get pregnant, I would live in a lower toxin environment. That's really important. If you know there's toxins, if you've got excess heavy metals, if you're living in a moldy home, this is the time to do it. For a lot of people, they need to reduce sugar and starches because a lot of the issue with infertility is insulin resistance or PCOS. They kind of run hand in hand. And so if someone listening has visceral adiposity, which means excess belly fat, you need to make sure your insulin is functioning properly because that is so critical. Certain foods like pomegranate, walnuts, and raspberries all have a compound in them called ellagic acid, which helps your insulin and blood sugar, which can lead to an improvement in PCOS and an improvement in fertility.

Fertility is about more than the moment you decide you’re ready to have a baby. Nutrition, metabolic health, lifestyle, and environmental exposures can all be important parts of the bigger health picture. We can’t control everything, but we can make daily choices that support our overall health, like eating more nutrient-dense whole foods and cutting back on added sugar and highly processed foods. Do you think we should be talking more about nutrition and lifestyle when we talk about reproductive health? @staytruepodcast *FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY.
