There's a renewed push tonight to break up the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom is an unusual place. It is a sovereign state governed from London, the Parliament at Westminster, but made up of constituent countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Those latter three have their own parliaments, and for the first time all three are now led by First Ministers from parties who back some form of independence. Overnight, those leaders came together to declare 'Westminster's time is coming to an end.' They believe the UK government puts too much focus on England. Scotland has been down this path before, but full independence was knocked back at a 2014 referendum. The independence push has been given a kick along in recent days after Donald Trump said he supports Northern Ireland breaking away and joining the Republic of Ireland. UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has been a big supporter of giving powers back to local communities, but breaking up the UK would make him the last British prime minister.
