when you actually watch horses interact and communicate, you quickly realize how misguided we are in the belief that they regularly or consistently resort to physical contact or violence to get their point across. if they rarely do it to correct each other (and after numerous other attempts), why do we use it so often as our first line of correction? when we react and hit horses “it comes from nowhere” to them because we’ve given them ZERO other signs that what they are doing is wrong. we are always going to be predatory to them so we don’t necessarily EVER need to resort to hitting, punching, slapping, whipping, etc to get our point across. often all it takes is a postural or energy shift. standing a little taller, taking up a bit more space or becoming a bit more rigid. also, if your horse is doing things that you feel necessitate a more violent response, you likely aren’t doing a very good job being clear in your boundaries or expectations and need to to a better job training. they FEEL us. they SENSE us. and they don’t need us to hit them to get our point across. #horsetok #horselife #horsebehaviour #horsemanship #horsetraining
