TW: needles in case you wanted to watch me give my horse who used to be hella reactive to needles an IM injection at liberty I follow the following steps with every injection: 1. show him the needle/syringe 2. use high value rewards 3. poke him with the cap on in injection area numerous times 4. pull skin back in area I plan to inject numerous times 5. wait for him to relax 5a. this is VERY important because injecting a tense muscle makes it much more painful this isn't for an overblown and he'll get one shot once a week for four weeks am curious to see how he responds! I'm sitting in a shelter made of plexiglass 6. feed treat & plunge needle 7. aspirate to make sure I didn't hit a vein 8. slowly plunge medication into the muscle 9. remove needle & reward heavily
