I've spent this year documenting my escape from survival mode and I'm finishing the year off strong by getting rid of 50% of our belongings. We live in 2000 square feet with four people, which may seem like a lot, but my husband and I both work from home and we are completely bursting at the seams. I've done this a million times before, it's an endless cycle of donating, selling, getting rid of, but then accumulating more things that we don't end up needing. So I decided that I'm going to either donate, sell, or throw away over 50% of our belongings. Or try to reach 1000 items. I must admit, I'm pretty good at getting rid of things. It's just a matter of staying on top of the chaos because with my job, I've sent so much stuff, but I've got to find a better way to manage all of this. Sometimes it's hard because it feels like I'm wasting money by getting rid of certain things, but I just know that it can better serve somebody else somewhere else. This is what my house used to look like after our first kid, and you saw what it looks like now. Honestly, I'm kind of embarrassed. One of my biggest challenges is actually taking care of our things, especially when they just end up being shoved into a cabinet or a corner. That's why these AGOLDE jeans were covered in Elmer's glue and it's why this Aritzia sweatsuit was washed with red towels because I just have not been good at taking care of our things. And it's why these are going into the trash. Because at the end of the day, there are just too many things to manage and only one of me. So I know that by getting rid of all of this noise, it's going to help clear out my mind. Here's our progress. It's small but mighty. And stay tuned for day two.
