decluttering half of our house

Unfortunately things have to get worse before they get better and we are on day three of getting rid of half of our belongings. I'm Hannah, I'm a mom to two boys and I've spent the last year documenting my escape from survival mode. But I was not expecting so many of you to resonate with this decluttering series. So join me for the rest of it. As long as you don't, I mentioned yesterday that we live in a very normal 2000 square foot home with four people and I didn't know that that would be controversial. But I'm so grateful for the space and all of the life that we get to live in it. However, it is overrun by things and they have got to go. For some reason our primary bedroom closet is our main storage room for the house and it barely even holds clothes anymore because the closet rods are falling down. So I went through every single item in this closet and it was so overwhelming. I feel exhausted from all the decisions that I had to make today, but I'm going to show you the final results because I got rid of probably 75% of the items that were in this room, which was so much. My husband and I both went through every single article of clothing, including all of the clothes that we had stored for the winter. So we know exactly what we have and what we don't need. I know it may seem like I'm being a little bit ruthless with how much I'm donating, but it's not worth it anymore for me to sit around and wonder if I'm going to need this later because it's just sitting here collecting dust. I went through every single one of these junk drawers. Yes, every single one of these because they've just become a junk drawer and it's so annoying. I need to know what you would do with this tangled mess of cords because I am team save what I can and donate the rest. But my husband wants to go through all of them. So we're going to have to see where that pile ends up, but for now we're compromising and just putting it in the donate bin. I don't know why, but I collect bags at this point, whether it's a tote or a makeup case, and I went through all of them. As a reminder, here is what we started with. I honestly cringe when I look at it. But this is how we're ending the day. I have never been so proud. This room alone has been so worth all of the work and I don't dread coming in here anymore to get dressed for the day. Everything is visible where I can see it, it's manageable so I can stay on top of it. Now I'm even more ready for the next room. So follow along.
