driving anxiety can make every little thing feel like an emergency 😭 a car behind you is close, someone honks, you realize you’re in the wrong lane, you have to make a turn you weren’t expecting, the light changes, you’re not sure if you should go or stop… and suddenly your brain is acting like you’re in the middle of a life-or-death situation. i’ve realized that a huge part of becoming more comfortable driving isn’t just learning the actual rules. it’s learning how to give myself enough time and space to make decisions without panicking. i used to think i needed to feel confident before i could drive confidently. now i’m realizing it kind of works the opposite way. you drive while you’re nervous. you make a small mistake and realize you survived it. you take a route that scares you and realize you can handle it. you get honked at and realize a honk doesn’t automatically mean you did something wrong. you have an awkward moment and keep driving. and eventually, those moments stop feeling like proof that you’re a bad driver and start feeling like proof that you’re learning. if you’re an anxious driver, please remember that you’re allowed to be a beginner. you don’t have to drive perfectly. you don’t have to keep up with the person behind you. you don’t have to take the fastest route. and you definitely don’t have to prove anything to anyone on the road. give yourself time. give yourself space. keep practicing. confidence doesn’t always come before you do the scary thing. sometimes it’s something you build because you kept doing it anyway. 🤍
