• One Arabic word can be a whole English sentence. فَأَسْقَيْنَاكُمُوهُ (Qur'an 15:22) = "So We made you drink it." • English has one "you." Arabic has five, depending on whether you're talking to a man, a woman, two people, a group of men, or a group of women. • Arabic has a form just for two. "Two books" is one word: kitābān. • Most Arabic words grow from a three-letter root. ك ت ب gives you kitāb (book), kātib (writer), maktab (office) and maktabah (library). • It goes both ways.
