To the everyday hero of the OR...

To the everyday hero of the OR... You might not know this, but if you've had surgery before, there's someone that is always looking out for you, even before they've met you. This person is considered the unsung hero of the O R. Because they never leave the O R, so you never get a chance to meet them. Surgeon comes out to see you. Anaesthesia comes out to see you. Nursing, comes to see you. There's somebody in the O R. Waiting for you. This person is a surgical technologist. They check all your instruments, make sure everything's sterile, make sure the environment is clean, make sure they have everything in order, it's organised. They help check the implants. They watch through the entire surgery, assisting, passing instruments, making sure that nothing gets contaminated at any moment. And if it does, they're gonna call it out to make sure it gets taken care of right away, before it even affects the patients. They're with you from start to finish, setting up your case, with you through your entire surgery, cleaning up after and making sure you get off to pack you safely. So happy Scrub Tech Week to all you amazing surgical technologists, you mind readers, you surgeon whisperer. You're amazing. The people who are right there with the surgeon but don't get enough credit. You guys are amazing.
