It actually is that serious that Olivia Rodrigo struggled through playing a live guitar solo during Maggots for Brains on the first few shows of her Unraveled tour. And no, not serious in the new Nick Jonas guitar solo way. That one was actually funny. Olivia's nerves and like slight stumbling is so important to see in the age of AI. It is really good for us to see imperfection and progress in art on stage like this. It is so easy right now for young people who want to experiment in making music to be tempted to take the lazy route and make all their music with AI rather than sitting down and practicing and failing and getting frustrated and locking in and then doing that again and again and again and again like Olivia is doing night after night. Seeing someone at such a high moment in their career nervously trying something new in front of people is like so so important and so amazing to see. In the exact same way that it was really important that Yung Lean went and redid his entire music video live on stage during the VMAs. I didn't know this because I had never heard the song before until I watched it on the VMAs, but apparently when that song came out, there was a lot of accusations that it was created using AI. It was because like, oh, the dancers are moving too fluidly and they don't seem to be bumping into each other. And basically it was just so beautiful and awesome and moving that people couldn't believe that a choreographer came up with the dance moves and that these people practiced hard and rehearsed over and over and over again and did take after take to get that all done in one shot to nail it flawlessly. Couldn't be done, had to be AI. Bullshit, said Yung Lean. Hold my ice cream cone, because I can't smoke on the stage apparently, it has to be an ice cream cone for the live performance. Even though Charlie did smoke in her performance, Yung Lean didn't smoke in his, what gives about that? I don't know. But yeah, he had all those dancers come out and do it again live in front of a studio audience. It did it live in front of a full audience on live television and proved that people, human beings are capable of creating mind-blowing art without the use of AI at all. Human beings are capable and willing and love to practice over and over and over again until something works, until it turns out right, until you get better. It is okay to struggle, to make mistakes, to be vulnerable and show yourself learning and making those mistakes in the case of Olivia. And I'm sure Olivia, by the time we see this tour coming to an end, that guitar solo is going to be like near flawless. She's not going to be probably like doing it upside down with her teeth or something, but like she's going to sound better and she's going to look more confident and she's going to feel so good. And that's what it's all about. Let people practice, let people get better, let people enjoy the process. You can enjoy the process too. And if you don't enjoy the process, then maybe this isn't for you. Okay.
