I just got a DM from a student asking whether they should still apply to Cornell and if I think the school will see a decrease in applications given the controversy. And I could only help but think about how absurd of a question that was. I think it really highlights a growing problem in our youth where their pursuit of prestige has consumed the decision making to the point they don't even consider their own values and instead prioritize the external validation of others and how the world perceives their life and accomplishments. I got into Cornell last year and I turned it down because I didn't believe that school was gonna help me accomplish what I wanted. So stop valuing what other people consider good. You need to figure out if what you are choosing aligns with what you actually believe in. If you can't make that determination yourself, you will never be fulfilled because you'll be chasing other people's dreams.
