The best way to get into the best schools in the world is to realize that the application process is a game and you can sell yourself as the best. See, I never had the best awards, extracurriculars, SAT scores, or grades. But what I did have was a damn good ability to tell stories. What these admissions officers look for in every candidate is fit. How well do you mesh into the campus culture as well as what do you contribute uniquely to the student body? Because they're not looking for a million copies of the same person. They're looking for the next Elon Musk or Bill Gates or Steve Jobs or whoever it may be that can put them on the map. So your job is to convince them that you are this person. Obviously, this is really hard and it's easier said than done, but the way you do this in practice is by tying together your awards and activities into a cohesive narrative around yourself. You also need to make sure that you indicate that your past performance will indicate future success.
