Yesterday, I completely forgot to give my son his ADHD meds and he went to school unmedicated. Here's the update. It actually went way better than I thought it was going to go. I did give his teacher a heads up and about 10:30 she responded to my message and she was like, yeah, I could tell. He's been pretty squirrely all morning. She said that he was of course having some issues sitting down, quietly listening during the lessons, but overall, no great issues, no big blowups. Win, win, win. If anything, this shows me that the meds aren't the only factor in how my son's day goes. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't need his meds. He does need his meds. His teacher is a godsend. She is a woman who's been in the game a long time and she knows what she's doing. He has a 504 in place and those accommodations came in handy yesterday. But if I've learned anything during this whole thing, it's that I need a better system so that this won't happen again. I don't know why I thought that depending on my brain to remember everyday before I'm even medicated was going to work. So I'm going to be tweaking our morning routine a little bit and I'll let you know when I figure it out.
