In the 1960s, American jeweler Henry Dankner & Sons created a remarkable series of miniature mechanical jewels known as Living Charms. Hidden inside these tiny gold sculptures is a wind-up watch mechanism. Turning a small crown activates the mechanism and brings part of the jewelry to life. In the Sacred Heart designs, the central heart can rotate mechanically, while an especially rare Beating Heart version makes the heart move rhythmically after being wound. Made in 14-karat gold and sometimes decorated with rubies and sapphires, the series also included moving carousels, birds, dancers and other miniature scenes. #art #artist #avantgarde #jewelry #jewellery
