“I knew I wasn’t crazy.” “I knew what we had was real.” “I knew they would eventually realize what they lost.” “I knew I just needed to wait.” But what if they don’t? Not because you weren’t worthy. Not because you weren’t lovable. Not because the relationship meant nothing. But because sometimes someone can be important to your life and still choose a life that doesn’t include you. And you have to be willing to face that possibility. Here are three realities you need to accept. 1. Their return is not something you can plan your life around. You don’t get to put your life in the waiting room until someone else makes a decision. Every day you spend checking their page, rereading old messages, looking for signs, or wondering when they’ll finally reach out… is another day you’re allowing someone else’s absence to dictate your presence in your own life. That isn’t hope anymore. That’s postponement. 2. If they come back, that doesn’t mean you get the relationship you miss. Read that again. You’re waiting for them to come back as the version you remember. The version who loved you. Understood you. Chose you. Promised you things. But people change. You may get the person back and realize the person you were waiting for no longer exists. Their return wouldn’t erase what happened. It wouldn’t automatically rebuild trust. It wouldn’t automatically make the relationship healthy. You would still have to meet the person they are now. 3. You have to become okay with a future that doesn’t include their return. This is the one you’re avoiding. Because accepting that possibility feels like giving up. But acceptance isn’t giving up. Acceptance is saying: “I don’t know what they’re going to do. But I know what I’m going to do with my life.” That’s freedom. Because the moment your healing no longer depends on whether they return… they lose the ability to keep you emotionally waiting. And here’s the part that’s going to hurt. You may be waiting for someone to come back who is already living their life without waiting for you. And if that’s true, your continued waiting isn’t keeping the connection alive. It’s keeping the wound alive. You don’t have to stop loving them today. You don’t have to pretend you don’t miss them. You don’t even have to believe you’ll never hear from them again. But you do have to stop making their possible return the condition for you to start living again. Because one day you may look back and realize… the person you were so afraid of losing wasn’t the only person you lost. You lost time. You lost peace. You lost pieces of yourself. And you almost lost the person who needed you the most: you. If you’re ready to start your healing journey, click the link in my bio.
