Part 123 of me embroidering the dumb sh*t men say to my friends on tshirts for them. Boy, amigos, if you're new here, hi, I'm Kat. And yes, I take the dumb shit men say to my friends and embroider it onto t-shirts because apparently, some people can't just end a relationship. They need to leave you with emotional damage as a parting gift. So my friend was with her husband for 11 years, and nine of those years they were married. They met in college and immediately clicked, and they had a lot in common. They basically grew up together in a lot of ways, and over the years, they had been there for each other through some really difficult things. He supported her while she healed from past abuse and dealt with medical issues. She supported him through difficult situations with his family. So even though the relationship wasn't perfect, she genuinely believed she had married a good man. But they got married so young, and as the years have passed, they started growing apart. My friend had always been a big believer in therapy, so when their marriage started struggling, she didn't just throw in the towel. They tried couples therapy, he started individual therapy, and she kept trying to figure out how they could reconnect. He was also trying new things and figuring out who he was, and she supported that as well. But instead of getting closer, he started spending more and more time away from her, especially with one particular female friend. And you know when nothing has technically happened yet, but your gut is screaming that something isn't right? Yeah, that was what my friend was feeling. But she was still working on herself and still hoping he was doing the same, until eventually, he sits her down and tells her he wants a divorce. As painful as it was, she agreed, because deep down, she knew something hadn't felt right in a long time. So the next day, they're talking, figuring out all the logistics and what happens next. And considering that they just ended an 11-year relationship, things are relatively civil, which apparently bothered this man because he decided to sprinkle a little trauma before leaving, because completely unprompted, he tells her he had come to the realization about their entire relationship. After the 11 years together, nine years of marriage, after everything they've supported each other through, this man looks at her and says, I don't think I ever truly loved you, I just didn't think anyone else would love me. Sir, you could have just signed the divorce papers and shut the fuck up.
