Why you can't engine swap a BMW I8? Sounds like a good idea on paper, right? Because this thing is basically a BMW supercar. What if I told you somebody actually tried to put a B58 in this, but failed? See, the BMW I8 is one of the coolest looking cars that BMW's ever produced, but it had one big problem. Because not only was it a plug-in hybrid, but it also had the smallest engine that BMW's ever put in a car. Instead of using an inline-six or a twin-turbo V8 like BMW's known for, they decided to use a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder. Worst decision ever, right? Well, why don't we just engine swap it? That's probably because the chassis looks like this. See, the BMW I8's engine is in the rear of the car, and to replace a three-cylinder with something like a six-cylinder or even a V8 is basically impossible because they actually tried it and it just didn't fit. Not to mention swapping the transmission, removing the hybrid batteries, and the wiring harness, which routing that is probably one of the hardest parts of this build. There have been teams that have successfully swapped in a B58 engine and instead of putting it in the rear, put it in the front of the car, but this threw off the entire weight and balance of the car and they never got it running. But do you think anyone will ever successfully swap a BMW I8? Because with a chassis that looks like this, I don't think it's possible. Follow for pt. 2
