Step 1. After every meal. Take a 15-minute walk. Walking after meals helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for rest and recovery. It also helps lower blood sugar after eating and improve insulin sensitivity. No equipment needed. Just 15 minutes and consistency. Step 2. This week. Add ashwagandha with a meal. Some studies suggest that ashwagandha may influence the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which regulates cortisol production. A 2019 randomized controlled trial showed a 27.9% reduction in blood cortisol levels over 60 days. The effects develop gradually, but more research is needed on long-term effectiveness and safety. Step 3. Tomorrow morning. Get 10 minutes of natural daylight before checking your phone. Morning light helps regulate your body’s circadian rhythm, including the natural daily fluctuations in cortisol. This is important for maintaining a healthy sleep-wake cycle. You don’t necessarily have to wait until 10 AM to drink coffee. What matters more is your individual sensitivity to caffeine and avoiding it too close to bedtime. Step 4. Tonight. Try to finish your last meal 2–3 hours before bed. Eating a large meal late at night may affect sleep quality and overnight glucose metabolism. Magnesium glycinate may be helpful if your magnesium intake is insufficient, although there isn’t strong evidence that it directly speeds up cortisol breakdown. Most importantly, establish a consistent sleep schedule, reduce stimulation in the evening, and give your body enough time to recover. What changes and when? After 3–5 days: You may notice better sleep quality and overall well-being. After 1–2 weeks: A consistent routine and regular physical activity may help reduce feelings of stress. After 6–8 weeks: With sustainable lifestyle changes, sleep, recovery, and metabolic health may improve. Belly fat doesn’t automatically disappear just because cortisol levels decrease.
