Simon Berger creates portraits by breaking glass 🔨 The Swiss artist trained as a carpenter, and his work with materials led him from spray paint and wood to glass. The idea started when a cracked car windshield caught his eye. Today he works with a hammer on sheets of laminated safety glass. Every strike leaves a small web of white cracks, and hundreds of controlled hits slowly build the light and shadow of a face. He calls this process "morphogenesis". This video shows how far he has taken it. He performs live in galleries while crowds gather around to watch a face appear from nothing. He breaks huge standing panels in dark rooms, works outdoors and even uses fire and his own feet. In the studio he goes further still, stacking many layers of glass into solid blocks and cubes, so the face seems to float inside the sculpture. There is no undo button. One wrong hit and the piece is ruined, so every crack has to be planned before the hammer comes down. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries across Europe, including a solo show at the Museo del Vetro in Murano, Italy 💎 Artist: @Simon Berger #art #glass #portrait #sculpture #artist
