THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS PRIDE • TRADITION • EXCELLENCE October 17, 2026 Greg Sankey Commissioner Southeastern Conference 2201 Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North Birmingham, Alabama 35203 RE: Request for Release from Southeastern Conference Membership Commissioner Sankey, The University of Texas at Austin hereby submits this formal request for release from membership in the Southeastern Conference, effective at the earliest date permissible under the SEC Constitution and associated bylaws. After careful and comprehensive evaluation, the University has determined that its athletics program, particularly in football, is currently unable to meet the competitive expectations and standards of the Southeastern Conference. This season's performance, including consecutive losses to Oklahoma (27–24) and Florida (27–24), the latter to a sophomore quarterback making his first collegiate start, has highlighted significant challenges in our ability to compete at the level required within the SEC. While we remain grateful for the opportunities, relationships, and experiences provided during our tenure in the conference, we believe a change in conference affiliation is in the best interest of our student-athletes, coaches, university, and supporters. Upon approval of our release, the University of Texas intends to formally pursue membership in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). We believe the MAC will provide a more appropriate competitive environment for our program as we work to rebuild, establish long-term stability, and pursue achievable athletic goals. We respectfully request the SEC's consideration of this matter and stand ready to cooperate with any necessary procedures to facilitate an orderly transition. Thank you for your time and attention to this request. Sincerely, Chris Del Conte Vice President and Athletics Director The University of Texas at Austin cc: The University of Texas at Austin President UT System Chancellor Board of Regents Mid-American Conference Commissioner (upon release) THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN
