STANDOFF AT BUKIT BATOK SECONDARY SCHOOL: 'ARMED INTRUDER' SIMULATION DRILL
An intruder armed with a sharp knife takes cover behind a classroom door, threatening teachers.
Staff: Calm down.
When school staff at Bukit Batok Secondary School spot the threat, one colleague confronts the armed attacker, trying to calm him down.
At the same time, other employees begin a full campus lockdown.
Moments later, police officers arrive at the scene to handle the situation.
Police officer: Drop your weapon. I said drop your weapon.
Following a brief standoff, the officers swiftly arrest the attacker.
This realistic emergency preparedness drill, which Minister for Education Desmond Lee observed, was conducted on Thursday (Oct 22).
According to the Education Ministry (MOE), these exercises cover a wide variety of scenarios ranging from uncooperative visitors and bomb threats to standard fire evacuations.
MOE added that the annual drills complement the nationwide SGSecure movement's efforts to inculcate vigilance and preparedness from young.
