So I currently have about $40,000 sitting in a high-yield savings account and here's exactly how much it's paid me every single month and what I've made for 2026. Now I think having a high-yield savings account is one of the easiest financial decisions that you can make because, well, some traditional bank accounts are still offering as little as 0.1% interest. That means that if you had $40,000 sitting in one of those accounts, you'd earn just $4 in an entire year. That is absolutely ridiculous. Now I've been using high-yield savings accounts for years, but I used to constantly move my money around chasing the highest interest rate possible. You know, if one bank was offering something like 4% interest and another was offering 4.1%, I would seriously consider switching. But eventually I realized that I was wasting way too much time chasing those tiny differences. I mean on $30,000 an extra 0.1% is literally just $30 in that year. And that's actually why I moved my money into SoFi earlier this year. I transferred about $30,000 from Wealthfront and SoFi paid me about $300 through one of their promotions. Now that one bonus is the equivalent to 10 years of chasing an extra 0.1% interest. So I moved my money over and I stopped worrying about finding the absolute highest rate. Now here's exactly what I've earned this year. In February, about $75, March 83, April 91, May 97, June 93, July 104, August 116, and September 118. Including January, it comes out to $784.45 in interest so far this year. And that's before even counting the roughly $300 promotion bonus. Now you might look at that and think, why does he have so much money tied up in a high yield savings account? Well, to be honest with you, this is completely an emergency fund and I'm somebody who actually owns a duplex now. So it's not just myself relying on an emergency. Let's say that the roof goes kaput, I need to replace it, or there's water heaters that need to be replaced. And all of this stuff kind of piles up while there's other people counting on me to have the money saved to be able to give them a healthy, safe living environment. And that's one of my main goals. So it's a little bit higher than what you might expect. And the last thing that I want is to need that money right before the stock market crashes like 20%. So instead I keep it somewhere safe, accessible, and earning interest without having to do anything else from me. Now a high yield savings account isn't going to make you rich, but if you're going to have cash sitting around anyway, you might as well get paid for it. And if your bank is still paying you practically nothing, I'd highly consider swapping into SoFi, there's a link in my bio.
