Last night for Halloween, kids took over the sidewalks, and the best part was bigger than the candy. Across neighborhoods all across this great country, families put on costumes, grabbed their buckets, and headed out for some wholesome trick-or-treating. All along the route, generous people opened their doors. They handed out candy, they complimented costumes, they waved to parents, they made room for one more little ghost, superhero, or little princess at the porch. That generosity can look small—a little bowl of candy, a decorated doorway, a few minutes spent making a child feel welcome and loved. But to a kid, it becomes the moment they talk about it on the ride home: the neighbor who gave them an extra piece of candy, the house with the silly decorations, the grown-up who remembered to turn on the porch light. Halloween gives communities a simple reason to show up for children. No big production is required—just a little candy, maybe a little decoration, a warm hello, a safe place to stop. So if you gave out or set out candy last night, thank you. You helped make the holiday feel bright, generous, and wonderfully wholesome. And if you went out trick-or-treating, hold on to those memories, those precious memories. And please, share this with somebody who helped make Halloween feel extra special.
