I left my new iPhone at the airport bathroom and someone took it. When I tried calling no one answered of course. I thought everything was lost. But then I used the find my iPhone thingy on my laptop to block my phone and to display a message on the screen. At first I wrote something really desperate like, please bring this phone back to me. I'll do anything for it. But then I had a moment of clarity and realized that I was making the same mistake many companies make, which is making the copy all about me me and me. So I took a deep breath and applied the one true principle of copywriting. Make it about the reader. So I erased my last message and typed, I'll give you $100 if you bring this phone back to me. Call this number in just 10 seconds. Someone called my partner's phone saying they had my phone and they could bring it back to me, which they did. So anyway the lesson here is very simple. When it comes to copywriting, always make it about the reader. The other ones we're trying to reach. After all it's not about you, your struggles, your product. It's about how you can solve a problem for the river and make their lives better. And in the end that's what they care the most about. Copywriting it works.
