What makes a TikTok hook annoying? 10 ways to become a millionaire. How to start a business in 30 seconds? How you can take your 9-5 and turn it into passive income? I think it's usually clickbait that makes some of the most cringeworthy hooks out there. And yet, there's something about them that makes them irresistible to click on. At the heart of clickbait is usually an unrealistic promise. I'm promising you something in the first few seconds that you find irresistible only later to find in the rest of the video that it is unlikely to happen. There are likely more than 10 steps to becoming a millionaire. It's probably going to take you longer than a month to start a sustainable business. The promise of passive income, in most cases, is a joke. And yet hooks like that work because they capture people's attention. If this puts you in a dilemma like it does for me, ask yourself this: Can your 30, 90, 120 second video deliver on the promise that you are giving in that hook? A lot of short form videos out there cannot deliver and that's what makes 'em clickbait. That's also what makes us cringe when we finish the video. I think the balance in finding a good hook is promising enough to grab your audience's attention while also being able to deliver what was promised directly in the feed.
