Hashtags on TikTok probably don't work the way you think. I'm gonna give you three ways to do them better. But first, why? As I've shared before, hashtags are not a cute way to label your videos. Hashtags are a piece of SEO that TikTok uses to identify your content. Unlike other social platforms where you post hashtags that others are actively searching for, TikTok uses hashtags to determine what audience to test your content in front of. That means if you're already using the wrong hashtags, TikTok has no way of categorizing your content and is pushing it out to the wrong people or no people at all. Hence and low engagement. There are three ways to use hashtags on TikTok that are way more effective. First, post niche hashtags. Find out what your audience is consuming and post hashtags that encapsulate that. Second, choose hashtags that are populated but not saturated. You want it getting a lot of traffic but not too much. Third, use between three and four hashtags at a time. If you're posting 20, 25, 30 hashtags, TikTok will categorize you as spam.
