Things That Suck About Computer Science 1. Math and Theory Heavy Here's some things that I extremely disliked while I was getting my computer science degree. Number one, it's math and theory heavy. I mean, you're gonna take every calculus, linear algebra, discrete mathematics. You're literally going to spend the bulk of your time doing proofs and solving math problems. You know, that would be cool if I was going to use that in the professional world or even in a master's or doctorate. It's very rare that you ever use these past your undergrad. I will say the benefit of doing all those proofs really teaches you how to communicate though. Second thing I hated was that I could never get girls. That's obviously a joke. But the real number two is that you'll be surrounded by geniuses. This leads to early onset imposter syndrome. You won't feel like enough because you may struggle with some topic that someone else is killing. You'll compare yourself and realize, dang, maybe I shouldn't do this, huh? But it's learning to cope with that feeling that will make you a great software engineer or anything else past undergrad. Now, this last point, I actually really, really disliked and it's hard to get an internship. Extremely hard. Even mid-level companies, like, don't even mention fan companies. Even mid-level companies have thousands of applicants for their internship programs. This makes it extremely competitive, especially for me because I played football, so I wasn't doing a million side projects during that time. Prepping for an internship is like a job in itself, like a whole another class. And then two, internships are probably more competitive than the actual software engineer roles that you will go for. So, personally, I just ended up volunteering somewhere and focusing on my side projects during that time and it ended up paying off. With all that being said, it is a great major to pursue. I wouldn't be discouraged by all this video because there's also tons of positive and fun experiences.
